Hillcrest

Hillcrest is an organization that owns and runs transitional housing for homeless families and is growing by leaps and bounds. The board of directors decided they needed to upgrade the current identity to create a more powerful visual impression. This was important because the group was looking to secure more public funding and needed a more professional appearance. This project is not yet entirely completed, with work still to be done with their stationery set.

Palm Pilot

This project served as a senior studio final project before completing the BFA program in Graphic Design and Visual Communications. I have included it here because a) I believe that it remains fairly successful even though it's several years old at this point and, b) because it holds some sentimental value!

Silo Creative

Silo Creative is an LLC owned by myself and my business partner Nate Werner (photographer). This ID and website was created early in 2005. Silo Creative still exists, however it is being restructured for possible ventures other than design and photography.

Armour Studio

Armour Studio was a case study for a possible design studio with identities for different divisions of the organization. Clean was the primary objective in development.

Tomfooleries Restaurant On the Plaza

Work was done on a number of fronts for Tomfooleries - from ads, to kid's menus, to simple table tents. The Kid's Menu was by far the most enjoyable. Tomfooleries takes their name seriously, utilizing silliness and humor as their approach. Part of this includes serving kid's meals in miniature Radio Flyer wagons. The front side of the Kid's Menu provides parking for said wagon along with plenty of places to color outside the lines. The backside of the menu contains instructions on how to transform it into a paper airplane - wonderful for kids, not so great for patrons with no sense of humor! :)

Misc. Illustration

These are included to show that while illustration isn't something I get to do a great deal of, it is something I enjoy and that I incorporate into a project whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Fiorella's JackStack Barbecue

One of the best barbecue spots in K.C. and one of the few that have managed to take this somewhat messy artform upscale. This project was done on spec and presented because the owner was a friend of a friend. Unfortunately, the timing was terrible - the owner had already secured a marketing firm and dedicated money to the project. Though the project never got to see the light of day, it was a really good time to work on and yielded some worthwhile results.

Thistle Class Sailing Association

This project produced work that has yet to be implemented (apparently due to some internal politics). Designed to update the group and give them a solid visual foundation, the identity was created to be modern but reference a sense of history through the use of a classic sans typeface. The group was fond of their current color scheme and still had some residual affection for their old mark, so finding a balance between their wants and their needs was necessary.

Whole Heart Crafts

This project was done for a relative of a friend. Her business is very small, but her work is exquisite and the energy that she puts in is substantial - using only the finest materials, all of which are environmentally conscious. The identity is combination of smooth vectored graphics mixed with earthy tones, vibrant warms and textured materials, making it modern but with a nod to the very tactile nature of the craft world.

Opportunities Publications

Opportunities Publications (or, alternatively, OppCompany) is a direct mail company and is comprised of three seperate companies (CAP, OPP & NAA - with OppCompany being the parent organization). As such, their solution demanded that each company be represented within one single solution. The final mark utilized a repeated element of abstracted flowing paper and three seperate colors.
